Loire wines benefit from our know-how

Our winery

A Big Idea of the Loire wines

Our know-how produces exceptional wines

In our magnificent region bordering the Loire, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, we have all the elements to produce excellent wines:

  • Diverse soils, mostly limestone (locally called “tuffeau”) but also flint in Sancerre
  • Quality grape varieties, most of them unique, such as “chenin” for white and sparkling wines as well as Sauvignon and “cabernet franc” for red wines
  • A temperate oceanic climate conducive to a pleasant life-style.

To this natural environment, wine growers and makers have added their ancestral know-how, passion and enthusiasm, words which have been resounding since 1885 at Langlois-Chateau and continue to do so.

A behind-the-scenes tour of Langlois-Chateau wine will allow you to understand and even “feel” this Great Idea of Wines. When you open a bottle of Langlois Crémant de Loire or a Domaine wine, it is the result of a long journey.

The essential steps of our wine making know-how

1
Respecting vineyards and soils: there can be no great wines without quality grapes. Langlois-Chateau is very active in viticultural research, always favouring natural methods and respect for the environment in its vineyards (73 hectares), notably through the use of integrated pest management. It is by these means that Langlois-Chateau was one of the first wine makers to obtain the Terra Vitis label.
Limiting and careful selection of treatments sowing flowers in the vineyards to increase the working time per hectare. These choices however, mean converting to a healthier viticulture. 30 Ha of the estate are undergoing organic conversion.
2
Advanced vinification: Langlois-Chateau regularly invests in state of the art equipment: sorting tables, pneumatic presses, measuring tanks, thermo-regulated vats and barrel cellars. The technique remains at the service of the grapes, their character or specificities. The quality requirements remain at the core of the process.
3
Mastering the blending process: Mastering the blending process is essential for the Crémants de Loire to the Langlois-Chateau Brand. The grapes come solely from 6 terroirs, considered by the winery as “crus” (high quality vineyards) by our winery. The grapes from each geographic location are kept separate and processed separately, before being blended in order to embody the style of winery: freshness and elegance.
4
A demanding quality control process: Quality control happens from the vines to shipment. Our winery keeps a record of each step of the process. Each bottle has a batch number which enables to retrace its history.
Achieving excellence
Our key words: rigour and mastery

Langlois-Chateau thus continues its development, without ever losing sight of this Great Idea of Loire Wines. The distribution of wines is divided between the French market (30%) and export (70%).

As such, the winery has chosen a unique Appellation for the fine sparkling wines: Crémant de Loire. Why? Because it is the most demanding Appellation, with
hand-harvested grapes, limited grape pressing, and a longer ageing process in cellars.

Rules internal to Langlois Chateau winery are in addition to the official requirements defined by the Crémant de Loire Appellation.
